Tom Gihl serves as INB’s Chief Operating Officer, responsible for technology and security, as well as day-to-day oversight of major government and corporate bank customers. Tom has held the position since the bank opened in 1999. But like all the early employees, he had his assigned days to take out the trash.

“We all did everything those first few years,” Tom recalls.

Before helping establish INB, Tom worked for National City Bank as a senior vice president/ Illinois manager for corporate and government Cash Management sales.

Tom secured this job after successfully serving as vice president, cash management in the mid 1990s for National City and its predecessor First of America Bank. He oversaw the development of the banking solution used to distribute public aid benefits via ATMs. The first decade of Tom’s banking career was spent at the original Illinois National Bank where he gained experience in investment portfolio management, corporate trust, correspondent banking and cash management.

Tom is a proponent of continuing education, and works to assure all bank employees stay current on banking trends and technology and security advancements. His own formal education includes:

  • Bachelor of Science degree, Southern Illinois University – Carbondale
  • Stonier Graduate School of Banking, American Bankers Association
    • School of Funds Management certification
    • School of Bank Investments certification
  • Treasury Management Association’s Certified Cash Manager (Permanent Status)
